What is Kybella?

Kybella is a breakthrough injectable treatment formulated to remove excess fat below the chin, (also known as “double chin”) without the invasiveness of traditional liposuction. It is the only FDA approved non-surgical treatment to permanently remove fat cells when injected into the fat beneath your chin.

How Kybella works

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. They are then carried out of the body as waste.

Am I a good candidate for Kybella injections?

Anyone who does not like the fat pocket beneath his or her chin may be a good candidate for Kybella. This area is often resistant to diet and exercise and occurs in men as often as women. Patients with excessive skin laxity or prominent neck bands may be difficult to treat with Kybella. Dr. Schwartz will help you decide if Kybella is right for you during your consultation.

How many treatments of Kybella will I need?

Most patients treated with Kybella experience visible contouring of their chin profile in 2 to 4 treatments. Patients with excessive submental fat may require up to 6 treatments in order to achieve results. Treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Once you have achieved your aesthetic goals you will not need to be treated with Kybella again.

Is there downtime?

For most patients, downtime is minimal and usually consists of swelling and numbness to the treated area lasting for several days to two weeks. It occurs most commonly after the first treatment session. Similar to other injectable treatments, you may also experience minimal bruising, redness, or tenderness at your injection sites, but these are typically temporary and resolve quickly.
