Procedures Designed with Men in Mind
National statistics reveal that plastic surgery for men is on the rise. More than ever, men are making the choice to improve their appearance with cosmetic surgery. Safer and more reliable techniques, an increase in public popularity, and a competitive business environment where looks are almost as important as proficiency have led more men to improve their appearance. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that men had over 15,000,000 cosmetic procedures in 2016. The most common procedures in 2016 were liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid lift, gynecomastia (breast reduction), and facelift. The most common non-surgical procedures were BOTOX, laser hair removal, skin care treatments including laser resurfacing and peels, and injectable fillers such as Juvéderm.
Dr. Mark H. Schwartz is one of New York City’s most requested plastic surgeons for men. He understands the balance between looking attractive and maintaining a rugged appearance. He offers a wide range of procedures to meet the goals of his male patients, including the following:
Men seek liposuction to treat bothersome areas of excess fat that won’t respond to diet or exercise. These problem areas typically include the abdomen, flanks, breast area, chin and neck.
Facial and Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery for men minimizes signs of aging around the upper and lower eyelids, including loose, saggy skin, excess fat and wrinkles. Facelift for men is a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation procedure, which addresses facial folds, wrinkles and fat displacement in the middle and lower regions of the face.
Rhinoplasty improves the size, shape and/or features of the male nose. It can bring the nose into better proportion with the rest of the face or correct a bothersome feature (e.g., bump on the bridge of the nose, asymmetrical nostrils). Rhinoplasty can also address a structural abnormality (e.g., deviated septum) that impairs breathing function.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Treatment)
Male breast reduction treats excessively large, woman-like breasts (a condition known as gynecomastia). The goal of male breast reduction is to restore a flatter and firmer contour to the chest.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is the ideal solution for the permanent reduction of unwanted hair. Men frequently request laser hair removal of the back and chest. Dr. Schwartz uses one of the most trusted names in laser hair removal: the Sciton system.
Laser skin resurfacing is a favorite among male and female patients that desire smoother, more youthful looking skin with minimal downtime. Laser skin resurfacing is designed to improve wrinkles, fine lines, acne scarring, age and sun spots, freckles, areas of sun damage and other noticeable signs of aging. It is primarily used on the face and neck (sometimes the chest and hands).
Men who suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) on the face, hands, feet and underarms may benefit from Botox injections. The Botox blocks the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands for a substantial reduction in sweat production. Results from one treatment can last up to six months; regular treatment is recommended to maintain the results.
Dermal fillers are designed to minimize signs of aging and the unwanted effects of long-term smoking and sun exposure. Many fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that adds volume and hydration to the skin. Dermal fillers are administered during a quick in-office treatment, and results can last up to a year (depending on the specific product).
