You Don’t Have To Hate Your Neck Anymore

A double chin is a very common concern for women and men alike, and this area of stubborn fat is often due to genetics and resistant to diet and exercise. Until recently, liposuction was the only way to eliminate a double chin, but many patients weren’t willing to undergo invasive surgery for such a small area. The recent FDA approval of Kybella, the first injectable treatment for a double chin, has made it easy to effectively target unwanted fat and improve the appearance of this trouble spot without the risks and scars that are typically associated with more invasive procedures.

Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid, a molecule found naturally in the body that breaks down fat. A series of two to four treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is generally recommended for optimal results (larger areas of fat may require up to six treatments)—and results are permanent. The main side effects are swelling, redness, and numbness after treatment (especially after the first injection session), but these are temporary. Most people can go back to work or resume social activities over a weekend.

New York City plastic surgeon Dr. Mark H. Schwartz, has found that Kybella is a great complement to other cosmetic treatments. When used in conjunction with injectable fillers to restore lost facial volume and/or add definition to the chin or jawline, Kybella helps improve the profile and lend a more youthful appearance. Kybella also helps enhance the overall results that can be achieved with BOTOX injections to minimize the muscle bands and other neck-rejuvenating treatments.

Dr. Schwartz will examine your face and neck to determine if Kybella is the best treatment option for you. In some cases, submental liposuction (under the chin) may be recommended to achieve the desired neck contouring results.
